{"id":1067,"date":"2024-02-12T14:03:37","date_gmt":"2024-02-12T19:03:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/steelray.com\/blog\/?p=1067"},"modified":"2024-02-12T16:08:56","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T21:08:56","slug":"forward-looking-duration-in-delay-analyzer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/steelray.com\/blog\/?p=1067","title":{"rendered":"Forward Looking Duration in Delay Analyzer 0.41.0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We&#8217;re excited to announce a new release of Steelray Delay Analyzer, version 0.41.0.\u00a0 There are many fixes and improvements in this release, but the biggest one is a feature called <strong>forward-looking validation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suppose you&#8217;re looking at a delay analysis of an update period where some significant progress delays occurred.&nbsp; You&#8217;re aware of the delays, but the schedule update shows that the delays were almost entirely offset with schedule revisions.&nbsp; As you analyze how the revisions almost offset the delays, you start focusing on one type of revision: the reduction of remaining duration on three not-yet-begun activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Excel report that Delay Analyzer produces, you can quickly jump to those revisions and see that there are 4 new columns:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"321\" height=\"132\" src=\"https:\/\/steelray.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/new_columns.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1069\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at the values on the first row of the table, this is how you would read each column:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u0394 Prev<\/strong>:<strong>&nbsp; <\/strong>In this period, the At Complete Duration (ACD) of this activity was reduced by 5 days from the previous period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PF<\/strong>: At the period finish, it was 10 working days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u0394 Next<\/strong>: The next time it is changes (looking forward), it will increase by 13 wd (23 wd total).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u0394 Final<\/strong>: The final value in the data set is 85 days greater (95 wd total).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So you can see that this remaining duration reduction was far from realistic.&nbsp; Forward-looking validation lets you peer into the future (to the right of the data date) and see whether adjustments to estimates panned out.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This video takes a deeper dive into the new feature:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"8.
